In an effort to make the Hillsboro Building Permit process more transparent and responsive to our residents, we have started to post them online. We are also hoping that by having the form on line, more permits will be filled out and submitted electronically. There is still a requirement to send or drop off your payment at City Hall, but the status and approval will be much faster. Currently there is still a requirement to manually load the information, but checking the status of the Building Permit will be a lot simpler for both the residents, and the Planning and Zoning. The status of Building Permits will be much like a stoplight, red - there are still issues that need to be coordinated with the city. A yellow status means that the Building Permit is pending, and still needs approval of the building inspector, approval of the Planning and Zoning Commission, or the approval of the City Commission, or the building permit fee is still due. A green status means that all conditions required to approve the Building Permits have been met and the project can proceed. There was a recent problem where a status for a Building Permit wasn’t clearly relayed to the applicant which required the Commission to come up with a better system. We are hoping that a side benefit of having this online system will be the ability of Hillsboro Residents to quickly get the pulse of building and improvements going on in our city.
